How projected growth, annual openings and industry mix can help users understand future labour-market demand.
Outlook is country specific
A profession can grow in one country while staying flat or shrinking in another. Demographics, public investment, industry structure, immigration rules, technology adoption and economic cycles all affect demand. That is why World Career Atlas treats outlook as country-specific data instead of applying one global projection.
For the United States, occupation projections can include employment change and openings. For European countries, Cedefop-style projection data can provide a broader view where country and occupation coverage exists. Source labels matter because the methods and forecast periods can differ.
Growth and openings are not the same
Projected growth describes whether employment in an occupation is expected to increase or decrease. Annual openings can also include replacement demand when people retire, change occupations or leave the labour market. A role can have modest growth but still have many openings.
Industry mix answers a different question: where people in the occupation tend to work. Together, projections and industry mix can help a user understand both demand and the sectors most connected to a profession.
